Understanding Medial Patellar Luxation
When the kneecap dislocates from its normal position
What is Patellar Luxation?
Medial patellar luxation occurs when the kneecap (patella) slides out of its normal groove and toward the inside of the leg. This condition is common in small breed dogs and can cause lameness, pain, and arthritis if left untreated.
The surgical repair involves reconstructing the tissues and/or bone around the patella to provide long-term stability and prevent future dislocations.
Grades of Luxation

Patella luxates with flexion and may stay luxated
Patella is luxated most of the time
Patella is permanently luxated and cannot be repositioned
