What is TPLO Surgery?

Understanding the procedure and why it's considered the gold standard

The Procedure

TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) is a surgical technique that treats cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) ruptures by changing the biomechanics of the knee joint. Instead of replacing the torn ligament, this procedure alters the angle of the tibial plateau.

During the surgery, a circular cut is made around the top of the tibia (shinbone), and the bone is rotated to create a more level plateau. This eliminates the need for the cranial cruciate ligament to prevent the femur from sliding down the back of the tibia.
